About

A Leap of Faith is a therapist-led, semi-structured discussion and reflection group for up to eight participants, exploring the questions, beliefs and uncertainties that surround faith, religion, spirituality and God.

The group welcomes different perspectives — from those with a strong religious faith to those who question, doubt or are still searching. Drawing on existential philosophy, psychology and spiritual thought, the group offers a space to explore what we believe, why we believe it and what happens when our beliefs are challenged.

Across six weeks, participants will be invited to think together about faith, doubt, suffering, meaning, morality and the possibility of something beyond ourselves. There is no expectation to arrive at a shared belief or definitive answer. Instead, the group offers a space for curiosity, respectful dialogue and honest exploration.

What to expect

Week 1 — Introduction & Connection
Introductions, icebreakers and establishing a shared group agreement. An opportunity to introduce the themes of faith, religion, spirituality and belief, and consider what brings each participant to the group.

Week 2 — God, Faith & Man
Exploring what faith and belief mean to us, and how we understand God, the divine and spirituality. What do we believe, and where do our beliefs come from? How might we distinguish between what is understood as divine and what has been shaped or interpreted by human beings?

Week 3 — Science, Nature & the Unknown

Exploring what science can explain, what it cannot yet answer and the mysteries that remain beyond our understanding. What can we know about the origins and order of the universe? What might nature, consciousness and the apparent order of the world invite us to question? Where might scientific knowledge end and faith, spirituality or wonder begin?

Week 4 — Doubt, Uncertainty & Questioning
Exploring doubt and uncertainty as part of the human experience. Can doubt coexist with faith? What happens when beliefs are questioned, challenged or change over time? Is questioning a threat to faith, or can it be part of the search for truth?

Week 5 — Suffering, Meaning & Faith

Exploring the relationship between faith and human suffering. How do we make sense of loss, injustice, mortality and uncertainty? Can faith provide meaning in the face of suffering, or can suffering challenge what we believe?

Week 6 — The Leap of Faith

Bringing the exploration together and reflecting on what it means to live with faith, doubt and uncertainty. What do we choose to trust when certainty is impossible? What might it mean to take a leap of faith?
